United Way Launches Planned Gift Fund

Fund contains estimated $2.5M in current and planned gifts

MANKATO—Greater Mankato Area United Way is providing donors with a new way to leave a legacy and support community needs with the launch of its Planned Gift Fund, which already has secured an estimated $2,500,000 in current and planned gifts as of June 8.

United Way announced the launch at its annual Top Executive Leadership & Business Awards Luncheon at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center Tuesday afternoon.

“For 90 years, Greater Mankato Area United Way has grown in its mission of improving lives in our region,” said United Way CEO Barb Kaus. “We are now looking to the future, diversifying funding sources, and planting the seeds for perennial gifts. We invite everyone to join us in leaving a legacy that ensures the well-being, stability and self-sufficiency of all ages. The impact of your gift today will last beyond a lifetime.”

Unlike traditional gifts made from income, a planned gift is often made from assets, such as investments or real estate, or as a part of an estate plan. The Planned Gift Fund is an additional way of giving besides a donor’s annual campaign gift, which remains a vital funding source for United Way’s partner programs serving more than 51,000 people each year.

More than 15 donors have committed to a current or planned gift as Charter Members of the Planned Gift Fund. The gifts range widely in estimated value.

According to Charter Member Glen Taylor, “It’s never too early to think about how we can continue to sustain United Way’s essential work.” Charter Members Matt & Emma Norland added, “It is so easy to create a lasting impact and build a gift that keeps on giving for generations to come.”

Community members are invited to become a Charter Member by committing a future gift. For more information, contact Barb Kaus at 507-345-4551 or BarbK@mankatounitedway.org, or visit MankatoUnitedWay.org/planned-giving.
