United Way Men’s Event
Date: Thursday, March 5, 2020
Place: Kato Ballroom
Times: Various shifts available on Wednesday (setup) and Thursday (during and after event)
Hundreds of regional men come to this fun-filled night of games, food and raising awareness of United Way programs. We need volunteers to run our 12+ games (darts, poker, bags, hoops etc) as well as setup, teardown and more. We also need helpers to get silent auction items!
United Way Used Equipment Drive for Connecting Kids
Date: April 17, 2020
Place: Scheels (by tree in middle of store)
Time: 2 to 7 p.m. (Shift 1 is 2-4:30; Shift 2 is 4:30-7)
Our annual Used Equipment Drive benefits Connecting Kids, a United Way-funded program that provides scholarships for K-12 to participate in out-of-school activities. We collect gently used sports/activity equipment for youth, and Connecting Kids distributes directly to kids in our area. Volunteers needed to staff the table at Scheels to collect donations and hand out gift cards.
Project Community Connect
Date: Tuesday, April 21, 2020
Place: Mankato Civic center
Times: Shifts available 7 a.m. through 4 p.m.
United Way helps put on this annual resource event at the Mankato Civic Center. More than 600 people attend this expo-style event where 70+ service providers help with housing, haircuts, employment and more. We will have various volunteer shifts throughout the event; jobs include handing out free items, helping vendors get their booths set up, greeting guests, etc. There is also some set up beforehand and takedown after.
United Way’s Fourth-Grade Book Project
Date: Various throughout April/May 2020
Join us as we delive Shel Silverstein books to fourth-graders in classrooms around the region! Books donated by the Olseth Family Foundation. We visit each classroom for 15-30 minutes as we pass out a book to each fourth-grader and read poems together.

United Way Week of Action
Date: June 15-19, 2020
During this week of service, United Way connects corporate groups to area nonprofits for volunteer jobs. Jobs range from indoor office activities to painting outside to landscaping – you will be able to specify your group size and choose what type of work to do.

United Way’s Women with Heart Luncheon
Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2020
Place: Mankato Civic Center
Time: Monthly committee meetings, decorating/setup day before, day-of assistance
We had over 675 women attend in 2019! Besides our volunteer planning committee, we need assistance confirming prize donations. Volunteers are needed prior to the event for decorating tables. We look for volunteer ushers to help attendees find their tables.

Ride United Motorcycle Ride
Date: Saturday, August 1, 2020
Place: Regional stops including Spinners and RibFest
Help with our third annual motorcycle ride to help kick off the campaign and raise awareness of United Way’s service area. Riders travel to stops around the region before ending at RibFest. We'll need help at various stops with prizes and other event logistics. Motorcycle not required!

United Way Human Foosball Tournament & Block Party
Date: September 2020
Place: S. Front St., Mankato
Times: Shifts available 7 a.m. through 7 p.m.
This is the sixth annual Human Foosball tournament held on the 500 block of S. Front St. Volunteer opportunities include morning setup (7 a.m.), registration (11 a.m.), reffing, ball-shagging (shifts from 12 to 5 p.m.), and takedown (5 to 7 p.m.). This is a really fun day, and we would love to have you there!

Gowns at the Gallery
Date: October 2020
Place: Cambria Gallery in River Hills Mall

This is the 2nd annual Gowns at the Gallery. New and gently used gowns sold for $50 each. Anyone can shop and find formal to semi-formal dresses of all sizes. New in 2019, guys can reserve their tux that night and Graif Clothing will be at the event doing tuxedo fittings. All proceeds benefit Greater Mankato Area United Way. Volunteers needed to help setup the dresses/racks in the morning and help with greeting/putting dresses back on racks the night of.

United Way Reading Festival

Join us for a fun morning celebrating reading during our fifth annual Reading Festival! This expo-style event had more than 600 people attend last year. Looking for volunteers to greet, hand out Capstone books, help at sign-in, and more.

United Way Fire & Ice Ball
Date: 2020 TBD
Place: Snell Motors
Time: Shifts available Friday (setup), Saturday (5 p.m. to 1 a.m.), Sunday (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
This gala event is our biggest fundraising event of the year for our programs. Volunteers help with setup the day before and with various tasks during the event, such as table escorts, game helpers, champagne pourers, coat check, and more. The event itself is 6 p.m. until midnight on Saturday. We also look for late-night helpers immediately following the event and on Sunday morning to assist with takedown.
