Shared Spaces Open House: September 21

MANKATO—Mankato’s long-planned nonprofit center has officially opened its doors, and the public is invited to an open house to celebrate.
Shared Spaces: A Center for Nonprofit Collaboration will host an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. on September 21, beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m.
After beginning renovations last summer, Shared Spaces has been home to seven area nonprofits since January 2016. Although there are over 350 similar facilities in the county, Shared Spaces is the first of its kind in Minnesota.
“Shared Spaces is a wonderful example of the impact of philanthropy in the community,” said Mankato Area Foundation Executive Director Nancy Zallek. “Numerous community-minded individuals and businesses championed the nonprofit-center concept. Their generosity allowed us to purchase the building and renovate it into a professional space in which our nonprofit partners can easily work, meet, collaborate and share resources.”
According to United Way CEO Barb Kaus, “This shared space allows us to use resources and dollars as effectively as possible, ensuring that we are doing our best to improve people’s lives.”
YWCA Executive Director Barb Dorn added, “There’s a real sense of collaboration among partner tenants in the building that makes it a fun and energetic place to work.”
Shared Spaces is located at 127 S. 2nd St. in Mankato. Street parking available where permitted; additional parking available at the Civic Center Ramp located at the corner of Riverfront Dr. and Walnut St.
